Message From Your 2018 LMASW President

Jessica JaramilloThere has been a lot of change in LMA over the past couple of years, and as a result, the Southwest Region’s local groups are thriving. We made great strides in 2017, but frankly, it wasn’t easy and we continue to focus on evolving and improving. Thank you so much to the many people across our organization who are responsible for helping set our region’s strong foundation. They brought their A- game and we benefit from their hard work and dedication to all things LMA.

As we jump into 2018, the LMASW Region Board is committed to providing and promoting the kind of member engagement you want from us: networking opportunities, local group programming, professional development and activity at the LMA Annual Conference. We are hard at work creating opportunities for LMASW members to meet and mingle, in-person, at the LMA Annual Conference and at the LMASW Region Conference October 3 – 5 in Phoenix, Arizona. Further, we are focused on empowering our local groups (New Orleans/Baton Rouge, Houston, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, Phoenix and Denver) to improve member engagement, create leadership opportunities and be well positioned in their succession planning. Finally, we’re working to make sure all of our members know about the tools and educational resources your membership provides to you.

This upcoming year promises to be a year full of opportunity and progress. I want to thank you all for your many contributions and leadership to our profession. I look forward to seeing many of you in New Orleans this spring and in Phoenix this fall. As the year continues, please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions or to share your thoughts and ideas.

Kim Perret has been involved in LMA for more than 20 years. She was first elected to two successive terms as president of the LMA Capital Chapter in 2003. In 2006, she became president of the national LMA. Her term coincided with the association’s 20th anniversary. She continued her participation in LMA leadership by serving on the LMA Nomination Committee for several years following her term as president. Pointing forward as well as back, in 2006 Kim oversaw the issuance of the LMA’s first position paper, which dealt with the ABA Model Rules and positioned the group as a thought leader in the wider legal community. In 2013, Kim was nominated and inducted into the Legal Marketing Association’s Hall of Fame and is also a member of the Capital Chapter Hall of Fame. Kim continues her leadership on issues of import to the greater legal industry, and today she co-chairs LMA's Advocacy Working Group on Ethics and Advertising (an outgrowth of LMA’s earlier task force covering the ABA Commission on Ethics 20/20).
